Maureen Dowd, My Soul Sistah

Posted by Jess C on September 28, 2008

OK, call me crazy, but this morning, when reading the Week In Review Section of the New York Times, I couldn’t help but squeal in delight when I read Maureen Dowd’s (great) Op Ed piece about Obama’s performance in the debate. Why?

Let me first recall my blog entry from September 5th entitled “Dear Governor Palin,” in which, among other things, I wrote the following (underscore added):

I think we all agree upon the basic premise that…we simply. Invaded. Iraq. Utterly unprovoked. Right?…Now, this being the case, Sarah, how, exactly, can we then say we are “winning?” Can you win an illegal invasion? Isn’t that a little bit like setting a house on fire and then bragging about putting it out?

I was pleased with my little metaphor. Had it been used before? Perhaps. But I’d never heard it.

Now imagine my delight and surprise when, this morning, in Dowd’s piece on the reponses Obama could have made to McCain’s jabs, I read the following:

On the surge, he could have said that McCain was the arsonist who wanted to be praised for the great job he’s doing putting out the fire he started.

Coincidence? Probably. Still, I like to think that great minds work alike!

You read it here first.
